Well it’s been a night of firsts for me tonight. It was the first time I’d gone to the House of Fun on my own and all was well and good with that. It was also the first time I’d seen either comedian live and all was well and good with that too. Also, it was the first time taking photos of comedians with my new camera but this wasn’t quite so well and good.
Steve Hughes was on first, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise really as he overran by a good 15-20 mins so we got more Steve than the other venue and he was the person I was there to see after all.
To say Steve Hughes had a rant would be an understatement. Moaning is one of the things he does best and combined with his slightly paranoid look at affairs his comedy can only be described as ‘right down my alley’ for I too found the joke in a sign saying “Would you give £1 to a homeless person for drugs?” before he’d got to the punch-line (consequently I was laughing a bit too hard during the set-up). I just found myself agreeing with him for most of his set, especially on the topic of health and safety and right now I’m really looking forward to seeing him again. I mean I could go on Saturday but I’m kinda already booked up what with seeing the Mighty Boosh, who will probably be no where near as mighty as him.
I digress. Let’s talk about Tom. He had an instant rapport with the crowd by coming on and saying that he was aware that he has the body of Peter Crouch and the face of Postman Pat. Personally he reminded me a lot of Matt Stone in Baseketball and so consequently he was the last person you’d expect to start talking about the merits of RedTube and YouPorn but that’s what he did. I have to say I was very impressed with his quick wit and his Steve Hughes impressions were hilarious and spot on. I’d quite happily see him again.
As for my photographs, well I’ve learned a couple of lessons: only shoot at ISO 1600 if necessary and don’t use multi-point auto-focus - use single-point auto-focus or manual focus instead. Duly noted.
